Simple SEO blueprint - Three Steps to Simple SEO

Don't let people make SEO a big messy maze. It's not. It's simple, if you keep it simple. At Simplosys, we like simple. So much so that we named the company after that :)

Now, this doesn't mean it's EASY. There's a difference. The concept is simple. Which is what you need to understand. VERY well. Then the implementation will depend on how well you execute the simple concept. But if your understanding of the basic concept is flawed, you'll never get results, really, never.

 So, here you go:

1. Keyword research: Use google keyword tool to find out what people are searching for related to your market. Ideally, find 1-2 keywords per page for each page on each website. The home page keywords are the most important. Choose keywords that are the MOST relevant to your site, even if the search volume on them is slightly lower. It's a balance. Select keywords based on a balance of the following:
- search volume
- competition for the keywords
- your budget for ranking for these terms.
Generally speaking, choose 3 word phrases or more. Don't go for 1, 2 word phrases, they are too hard to rank for in the short term. You can target them once you successfully rank for three word phrases.

If you have better keyword tools, great. But the free ones are good enough to get you going.

2. Website optimization: Optimize the website for these phrases. Title, description, meta tags, content, keyword density, footer tags, page inter-linking, code, alt tags etc. can be optimized. Make sure your keywords are close to the page's top left corner in the content. And try to keep code simple if possible.

3. Link Building: Build links from relevant high quality sites to your websites with anchor text = your targeted keyword. This is the biggest and hardest part. And involves treading the boundaries of what search engines approve as ethical and encourage, versus crappy techniques that are nothing but spam. Stay on the good side. Content is king. Write good content, not just one piece. Good content for every little campaign that you embark on. It will pay dividends, in the long term. Creativity is at the essence of link building. If you get that, you'll do great.

Good luck.
